Two weeks with insights on global e-commerce
This week, regional performance metrics
Massive regional differences in e-commerce adoption
We have assembled a 43 country report with the latest e-commerce trends. Some highlights: E-commerce penetration varies substantially across regions – North&West Asia (China, India, Korea, Taiwan) leads both in terms of buyer reach (almost 2 out of 3 persons buy online) and share purchased online (more than a quarter). Western Europe is slightly ahead of Eastern Europe. Latam, MEA and SE Asia are lagging behind in value share, but especially SEA has already reached high penetration.
Frequency aligns with penetration, spend per trip with income levels
Not surprisingly, where we see more consumers buying online, they do so more often as well. While the average household shops online more than every second week in North&West Asia, their peers in Latam, EE or SE Asia do so less than once a month. Not surprisingly, basket values are higher where income is higher.
